Rossi called Yamaha in trouble

The Doctor is lost. He had to settle for occupying 18th place in FP1, while filling in 14th place during FP2. Almost 0.8 seconds adrift of the fastest driver, Danilo Petrucci.

In the last two seasons, Jerez has indeed made it difficult for the tuning fork manufacturer. Nevertheless, Rossi hopes that the new asphalt and the YZR-M1 2019 specification can make his performance better this time.

Unfortunately, the two training sessions he performed did not go as expected. He doesn't go fast, doesn't have strong speed and that bad feeling on the motorbike is generally, rather than a specific problem.

"A difficult day. We know here, in Jerez, we suffer a little, because in the past few years we were not too fast, "he said.

"We hope to be better than last year because the modified motorbike [for 2019] helped us in the first three races. Also with new asphalt, we hope to be more competitive. But today is difficult.

"We tried a number of different things in the afternoon, but I wasn't fast. My speed is also not fantastic. My position is quite low. We are a little in trouble.

"We are not strong. It seems like the combination between the M1, tires and track isn't fantastic.

"I don't have certain problems in general. We tried to change the balance of the motorbike because I suffered in general, also when entering the bend for example, I was not fantastic.

"Not only in acceleration. We tried modifying something, but unfortunately it didn't work. "

When asked whether a poor performance at Jerez could mean ongoing difficulties, Rossi replied: "To be sure, if we are able to be strong here, then it is very positive. But if we have trouble here, [that's] negative [only] this weekend.

"For me [this] is not the final answer. Maybe we have trouble in Jerez, and we go Le Mans and the bike is fine. Everything isn't finished here.

"To continue fighting in the championship, we need to score a few points."
